Making a choice reasonably. Particular features of different kinds of lamps.

Lamp type: incandescent lamp.

Advantages:

- the most widely used light source in everyday life;
- simple in use;
- reasonable price.

Disadvantages:

- inefficiency of electric energy use: 5% - light, 95% - heat;
- short service life;
- evaporating tungsten deposits on internal surface of a bulb as dark taint.

Application field:

- are generally used in everyday life where permanent illumination is not required, but convenience of use is important.

Lamp type: halogen lamp.

Advantages:

- accuracy of color rendition;
- stable luminous flux within all service life;
- long durability;
- possibility of light adjustment;
- compact size.

Disadvantages:

- inefficiency of electric energy use;
- high temperature of a bulb;
- ultra-violet rays cause negative influencу on human health (for lamps without protection);
- sensibility to voltage differentials.

Application field:

- places where color rendition accuracy is required: museums, exhibitions, shop-windows;
- local lighting in dwelling rooms, bars, restaurants etc.

Lamp type: compact fluorescent lamp.

Advantages:

- more than 5 times reduction of electric energy expenses (in comparison with incandescent lamps);
- 8 times longer service life than for common lamps;
- high luminous efficiency (brightness);
- compact size;
- capability of operation at low temperatures;
- capability of light "warmth" choice.

Disadvantages:

- relative expensiveness of the lamps in comparison with low-technological lamps;
- color rendition is worse in comparison with halogen lamps;
- luminous flux falls by the end of service life.

Application field:

- possibility of use practically everywhere in a field of incandescent lamps application;
- in places where economical illumination or power limitation are necessary.

Lamp type: metal halide lamp.

Advantages:

- high luminous efficiency;
- excellent color rendition;
- high energy efficiency;
- bright white light;
- insensibility to voltage jumps.

Disadvantages:

- the lamps are turned on not at once and reach their maximum brightness within 5-10 minutes;
- the lamps have operating limitations (can be turned on again only in some time after previous turning off).

Application field:

- are applied in rooms with high requirements to light brightness; trading areas and concert halls, exhibition galleries etc.;
- for exterior lighting.

Lamp type: LED lamp.

Advantages:

- tiny size;
- compactness;
- absence of breakable, wearing and burning-out parts;
- does not heat up;
- high efficiency factor;
- waterproof;
- wide operating temperature range (at -30...+70 °С);
- long durability (90 thousand hours of continuous work).

Disadvantages:

- high primary expenses for buying a LED element.

Application field:

- possibility of use practically everywhere in a field of incandescent lamps application;
- in places where economical illumination or power limitation are necessary.
